Le Comte de Lautréamont: In Memoriam

April 4th, 2022 by Voxx

In Memoriam: The Father of Surrealism.

Today, I’m celebrating the birth of my favorite poet, Isidore Lucien Ducasse, more famously known as, Le Comte de Lautréamont. During his life, he completed writing only one complete book, but oh what a book it was!

Entitled “Les Chants de Maldoror”, (The Song of Maldoror) is one of the most mind-boggling, verbal hallucination ever written. If you have never read “Maldoror” (as it is often referred to), I suggest buying a copy today, in his honor. (Just scroll down this page, and you’ll see a link to buy the book from “My Book Club” on the right-side column).

For lovers of great surrealist poetry, take a minute to read a sample of this great artist’s work.

You can also read my special page, dedicated to Le Comte de Lautréamont, complete with an assortment of valuable links.

Let me know your thoughts upon reading this truly important, and startlingly original poet’s work. I’m sure that once you read his story, (and his poetry), you will reserve a special place in your library for the late, great Isidore. ~V~

Jaco Pastorius: Missing The Master at 70

December 1st, 2021 by Voxx

28E56C8C-97ED-4D0D-8AB2-EBD0034C3380The bass guitar. Jaco. There is simply nothing else that can be said. He was a genius, a master, a shape-shifter. One of the most influential musicians of all time.

Jaco I miss you so much. You were, and continue to be an inspiration to me, in music, and even more, in life.

There are some who wonder what kind of music you’d be making now — I say to them, there was nothing that could have been added to the vocabulary of your musical artistry.

Know that we still listen to your music — that it still inspires, still blows minds. I am grateful to have had the gift of watching you play live, as a young girl. My sonic fantasy.

Beautiful soul, may you rest easy, but never in total peace, for that would not be you, would it?

Stephen Sondheim: Send In The Crowns

November 26th, 2021 by Voxx

7D0D6153-19E1-47D9-A960-A50384F810A3Legendary musical and lyrical genius, Stephen Sondheim, passed away today. He was known for his work on such Broadway masterpieces as, “West End Story”, “Sweeney Todd”, “Gypsy”, and many more.

During his life, he won many awards, including an Academy Award, 8 Grammy Awards, 9 Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and a Lifetime Achievement Award, among many others.

As a published poet, lyricist and musician — what I loved most about Sondheim’s work was his incredible ability to bring depth and personal emotion into his lyrics. One of his greatest songs, (for which he wrote both the lyrics and music), was “Send In the Clowns.”

Several weeks ago, I was inspired to write to Mr. Sondheim. I wanted to thank him for the gift of his music and lyrics. But, I had a sense that he might not wish to be bothered by a stranger, so I didn’t do it. Now, I wish

I had. I hope his spirit will Rest In Peace, knowing how much joy he brought to the world, by sharing his song with all of us. Thank you Mr. Sondheim.

Blessing on Veterans’ Day

November 11th, 2021 by Voxx

F7CE4802-F2C1-4F8E-866C-F644CD4AA226I dedicate this to all the beloved service people who gave of their time, effort and lives on this special day.
But, mostly, I dedicate this post to my beloved father, Kyle, who was a Chief in the United States Navy. He experienced being a captive of the Japanese in WWII, on the island of Sumatra, at the death camp of Makasser.

My father was on the ship, USS Pope, when it was torpedoed, and sunk in the ocean off the coast of Sumatra. He was a part of the crew, who was commanded by the renown Captain Antrim. He lived to write a book about his harrowing experiences, which will be published soon.

I am proud to say that I have ancestors who fought in the Civil War, The Spanish-American War, World War I, World II, and the Korean War. Friends of my family also died in the Vietnam War.

Although I wish we lived in a world where we could all live together in peace and harmony, it is sometimes necessary to fight to preserve our rights.

May we create a society that will be worthy of having sacrificed the lives of so many wonderful people. People who gave us freedom. Let us use it wisely. Blessings, ~V~
