Moon Magick & Eclipses

March 3rd, 2007 by Voxx

s moonPerforming magickal rituals during an eclipse can be pretty tricky business. It is best for beginning Magicians to perform their spells during Waxing to “regular” Full Moons.

For seasoned practitioners, Black Magicians and Necromancers, of course the upcoming Blood Moon is perfect for such purposes as Seances, Spirit Evocation (not Goetia spirits though), Dark Angelic works, Enochian, Scrying in the Spirit Vision, Consecration of destructive talismans, and the like.

I’m sure the Vampyre Community has something interesting conjured up for the evening’s festivities, lol.

Remember to pay attention to the fact that doing any rituals tonight may have a negative impact on your life, depending on your astrological chart. The Full Moon is in Virgo, so rituals at this time can affect your 6th and 3rd Houses negatively — just remember to be careful.

For Necromancers, I’d suggest being extra cautious about contamination — spiritual and otherwise, during this most inauspicious Lunar phase.

Eclipse Magick: Many magicians choose to do their most powerful spells during a special astronomical event known as an eclipse. Just as the sign of the Moon affects the power of rituals and worldly events, there is an additional twist when the Lunar eclipse happens in a particular sign.

Causes of a Lunar Eclipse: A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth’s shadow falls on the moon. Lunar eclipses occur, on average, about every 6 months.

Types of Lunar Eclipses: A Total Eclipse happens when the entire moon enters the Earth’s umbra (the darkest part of its shadow.)

Partial Eclipse: A Partial Eclipse happens when only part of the moon enters the Earth’s umbra.

Duration of Lunar Eclipses: During an average total lunar eclipse, the moon is within the Earth’s umbra for about an hour. This is called totality.

Frequency of Lunar Eclipses: Since the plane of the moon’s orbit is inclined about 5 Degrees from the plane of the Earth’s orbit, lunar eclipses are relatively infrequent. There are about two lunar eclipses each year, visible somewhere on Earth.

Blood Moon: Full Moon Eclipse in Virgo!

March 3rd, 2007 by Voxx

bloodmoonThe Full Moon in Virgo will prove to be very cataclysmic for many people. Not only is the Full Moon being eclipsed, it will also be a Blood Moon.

According to various astrological news sources, the Full Moon will be at 13 Degrees of Virgo, which in my estimation is incorrect. The Moon will truly reach its full phase on March 3rd, at exactly 12:39 pm (PST), at 12 Degrees instead.

Traditionally the lunar title of “Blood Moon” is given to the first Full Moon after the harvest in October. It’s interesting to note that the Mayan culture had a special Goddess named “Xquic”, who ruled over the time of the Blood Moon, in particular.

My feeling about this Blood Moon is that it portends violence, loss, trouble with all things related to the astrological 6th House, ruled by Mercury. Things that will get further out of whack will involve Work, Health and Service issues (as Virgo is the Zodiacal ruler of this house). And since Mercury also rules the 3rd House of Gemini, expect squabbles with family members, and travel delays.

Since Mercury (ruler of Virgo) is also retrograde in Pisces right now (making annoying aspects with the Sun), there will be considerable problems in almost anything you attempt — so chill out already!

Happy Winter Solstice 2006

December 22nd, 2006 by Voxx

I want to wish you all a wonderful Winter Solstice 2006! Today is the shortest day of the year — beginning the 22nd, the light of the Sun will shine brighter until it reaches the Summer Solstice, on June 21st, 2007. May you have a blessed, healthy, happy and prosperous New Solar Year.

The Pagan History of Christmas: The Winter Solstice is a time of great power, and has been celebrated since ancient times among many cultures throughout the world. The holiday we now call “Christmas” actually had its beginnings in the Cult of Mithras, the Sun God of the Persians, although it is believed that the origin of Mithras occurred in India around 1400 BC.

One legend of the birth of Mithras states that he sprang from the living rock or from a tree. Another tradition explains that he was born from the Cosmic Egg, while holding in his upraised hands the Sword of Truth and Torch of Light — sounds a bit like descriptions of the biblical Jesus, doesn’t it?

There are ancient artifacts depicting him surrounded by an egg-shaped frame, symbolizing the cosmic 12 Signs of the Zodiac. Many of those representations of Mithras have been found in modern-day Britain, some of which are considered to be some of the earliest surviving representation of the Signs of the Zodiac in the north-west provinces of the Roman Empire.
