Today is Beltane, one of the Witches’ Sabbaths which marks the last of the three Spring fertility festivals. It is the second Sabbath of the New Year, coming between the Vernal Equinox (Ostara), and the Summer Solstice (Mid-Summer). Beltane is equated with the arrival of Summer since ancient times.

The Sabbath of Beltane (also known as May Eve), is also known in Germany as Walpurgisnacht, (which translates as the “Night of Walpurgis”). In the lore of Witchcraft (before it was renamed “Wicca”), and was often depicted as the night when all the witches and their familiars rode their brooms through the sky.

Interestingly, Beltane happens today on the near-full Moon in Scorpio, which adds just the right amount of spiritual lunar energy to the holiday. Interesting how the Pagans chose the Astrological placement for this holiday, as the Moon in Scorpio relates to Sex, Death and Rebirth. Also, at the time of this holiday, the Sun is in sensual Taurus, which is ruled by Venus the planet ruling love and beauty.

Do What Thou Wilt Shall Be the Whole of the Law!

Today, Thelemites are celebrating the Feast of The Second Day of the Writing of The Book of The Law, which was channeled by The Master Therion (aka Aleister Crowley), by his Holy Guardian Angel, Aiwass — the Messenger of the current Aeon of Horus, The Crowned and Conquering Child.

History of the Book of The Law: See the previous entry for the history of this prophetic book.

The Book of the Law, Feast of the 2nd Day of Writing: The Book of the Law was written in three consecutive days, starting on April 8th, 9th and 10th, in 1904, e.v., and was psychically dictated to Crowley between the hours of Noon to 1:00 pm, during that 3-day period. Today, on April 9th, is celebrated as the Second Day that Crowley channeled the first Thelemic Holy Book. On the First Day, Crowley channeled the words of the Egyptian Sky Goddess, Nuit. Today, is the anniversary of the day that he channeled the Second Chapter, whose words were inspired by Hadit, the Sky God, the consort of the Goddess Nuit.

Suggested Thelemic Rituals: Some suggestions for attuning yourself to the 93rd Current would be to perform the listed Thelemic Rituals during this extra magickal time of the Thelemic year:

• Reading and/or Writing of Chapter 1,2, or 3 (depending on the day);
• Liber Resh (Four times per day, for all three days);
• The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (before “Resh”);
• Reciting “Will” at each meal;
• Greater Invocation of the Pentagram (once per day)
• Liber Reguli (at least once per day, for all three days);
• Mass of the Phoenix (once per day, or at least once on Day 3);
• Practice of Liber E and Liber O.
• Sex Magick (all three days, and then some!)

How I Celebrated Today: Personally, I spent the hour between Noon and 1PM typing out the entirety of Chapter II. I do this every year, (sometimes writing the chapters out in long-hand), and it really gives me a magickal charge. It seems going through the action of writing this book for myself, really lets me feel and see for myself what Aiwass is really trying to communicate through the writing of this Book.

Love is the Law; Love Under Will!

Today at 10:15 am (PST), the Moon will be Full in the Sign of Libra, at 21:35 Degrees.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those who have suffered losses due to the earthquakes and tsunamis over the last couple of days. But, of course — the listeners of my weekly psychic radio show have known about these upcoming events for quite some time, as I predicted these events months ago, with the help of Astrology.

The first series of events that acted as a trigger effect were the dual eclipses we experienced on March 3rd, and again on March 18th. Then, Mercury moved back direct recently. Finally, the Planet Pluto went retrograde in the Sign of Sagittarius, at 28:00 Degrees on Saturday, and today’s Full Moon in Libra is just the kind of planetary aspect that sets off huge events such as this.

It seems that there will be more upheaval in this area during the next 6 months, as there will be a few more intense planetary aspects coming up. So, just to be on the safe side, I’d suggest getting your earthquake kits updated with new supplies. It isn’t over yet!

Healing Ritual: If you can, either before or right at the time of the Full Moon, light a white or light blue candle for healing, and balance — hallmarks of the sign of Libra. Oils to use are Violet and Rose. Stones that are special at this time are Turquoise and Opals. Light some Rose incense, or get a fresh flower to put on your desk to brighten your mood.

Avoiding Full Moon Tension: As Libra rules Balance, Relationships, Legalities and Marriage, I’d suggest taking a break for a minute, if you have to deal with such subjects today. Whatever you do, keep your cool — don’t make major decisions on a Full Moon. Also, stay clear of arguments and just relax if you can. You certainly don’t need another headache when you should be enjoying the artistic influx of ideas that are much more beneficial to your well-being. Indulge if you must, but only in things that will bring you balance during this stressful time.

About Bael: Bael, is the first Principal Spirit mentioned in the The Lemegeton, (aka The Lemegeton, and The Lesser Key of Solomon). He is a mighty and powerful King who rules in the East. Bael’s original name was Bel, (and according to some, Bal.) Bel was first known as the most ancient God of the Babylonians. Interesting how gods are denounced by “newer” religions, and always vilified later as “demons”.

Qabalistic Attributions: Bael is associated with the tarot card, The Two of Wands, and the Astrological Planetary attribution of Mars in Aries.

Bael’s Appearance: When properly evoked, Bael will appear in any of several diverse shapes, such as: A Cat, a Toad, or a Man — sometimes he even appears in the shape of all three at the same time! When and if he deems to communicate with the Magician (usually via the Psychic faculty of Clairaudience), his voice will sound hoarse and scratchy.

If you should ever be desirous of evoking Bael, you should wear his Lamen (spirit sigil), before calling upon him, (as with all the Goetia Spirits, in general).

Powers of Bael: Bael is primarily known for bestowing the dubious gift of “invisibility”. This can be advantageous in certain circumstances, however the Magician needs to be especially careful. I have personally known Magicians who have suffered accidents due to the fact that they were “invisible” to an on-coming car! Proceed with caution.

Advice to the Magician: Before dealing with Bael (or any spirit possessing the noble title of King), I would suggest you ensure that you’ve already performed quite a few other evocations properly. It’s bad enough to make a mistake when dealing with a less powerful spirit, and the “Big Boys” of the Goetia have reportedly made mincemeat out of many an untrained Magician.
