Aleister Crowley’s Greater Feast

December 1st, 2008 by Voxx

s_univ.jpgToday is the 61st Anniversary of the death of the avatar of Western Magick, Edward Alexander Crowley (more famously known as Aleister Crowley). Thelemites (those who follow the magickal tenets of Crowley) refer to this special day as Crowley’s Greater Feast.

As a Thelemite, I always observe the Holy Days of Thelema, and earlier today remembered to meditate on the special energy of this day; however, at 11:34 pm (PST) the remembrance hit me full force. I felt his spirit must have left close to this time all those years ago.

Of course, today’s observance of the anniversary of Crowley’s death is extra special, as it’s also the day of a rare Jupiter/Venus Conjunction, an Astrological signifier of blissful union.

After looking over the Astrological Chart of Crowley’s death (December 1st, 1947), I saw that the Sun was at 9 Degrees in the sign of Sagittarius. I suddenly realized that this exactly conjoined one of my karmic planets at the exact degree. No wonder the path of Thelema called out to me so strongly in this incarnation!

In closing, I’d like to end this post with one of the more stirring passages from Crowley’s own Liber XV (The Gnostic Mass), wherein the Deacon of the Mass states:

“Unto them from whose eyes the veil of life hath fallen may there be granted the accomplishment of their true Wills; whether they will absorption in the Infinite, or to be united with their chosen and preferred, or to be in contemplation, or to be at peace, or to achieve the labour and heroism of incarnation on this planet or another, or in any Star, or aught else, unto them may there be granted the accomplishment of their wills; yea, the accomplishment of their wills. AUMGN. AUMGN. AUMGN.”

Wherever you are Frater Perdurabo, I hope you can see the beauty of the legacy that lives on in all of your magickal children.

The Greater Feast of the Beast

s_univ.jpgToday is the 60th Anniversary of the death of the avatar of Western Magick, Edward Alexander Crowley (more famously known as Aleister Crowley).

Crowley, wherever you are . . . say hi to David for me.

Aleister Crowley and the Golden Dawn

November 19th, 2007 by Voxx

acfamous.gifToday marks the 109th anniversary of Aleister Crowley’s initiation into the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (G.’.D.’.), which he joined on November 18th, 1875, receiving his Neophyte Degree (0=0). It was upon that occasion Crowley took his legendary Latin motto, “Perdurabo” (“I will endure unto the end”).

Crowley’s introduction to the magickal order was through George Cecil Jones, a gentleman whom he met after he had left Cambridge University. Jones further introduced Crowley to Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers (S.L.M. Mathers) who invited him to join the G.’.D.’.

Frater Perdurabo (as he was known in the group) rose rapidly up the ranks of the Order, and by the year 1900, Crowley had achieved the grade of Adeptus Minor, no small magickal feat.

In that same year, a huge schism took place within the Order that left it in ruins, with Crowley severing ties with the group altogether.

Still, today is a day to remember as Crowley’s first real step upon the road of Magick, without which (in my opinion), Western Occultism would most likely not exist as it does. Certainly, the art of metaphysics and the occult have been forever changed by the force that was Crowley.

Happy Birthday Aleister Crowley

October 13th, 2007 by Voxx

crowley-bday.jpg
.’.93.’.

It seems that some of my greatest inspirations were born under the astrological sign of Libra. John Lennon is a musical hero, and Aleister Crowley is a magickal one.

I have to say that the writings and teachings of Crowley (aka The Master Therion), have been the most influential, especially considering my entire life has been dedicated to the learning and practice of the art of Magick.

Today, I’d like to pay my respects to Crowley on his 132nd birthday. His influence in the world continues to be felt through his Proclamation of the Law of Thelema, which ushered in the 93rd Current in the form of the Aeon of Horus, the Crowned and Conquering Child.

To learn more about Crowley’s ideas and magickal philosophies, please read The Book of the Law, or feel free to write me for more links and info.Albeit, Crowley (as a mere human) had his flaws and foibles, but as a Magician he had no equal, although there are those who might argue the point.

To learn more about Crowley, the Man and Magus, I hope you’ll spend a minute to read a bit about him at the Voxx Magickal Forum, and see for yourself.

Crowley, wherever you are … thank you for all the magickal gifts you’ve helped me to discover and use to manifest my True Will. I can honestly say, that the use of High Magick has enabled me to attract the health, wealth, knowledge and love that is every human’s birthright.

If you’d like to learn more about The Art and Practice of High Magick, feel free to contact me or check my list of available classes.

In the meantime, below are some additional links I feel might be useful for those of you who have yet to discover this incredible man for yourself. I suggest you read Crowley’s writings for yourself, and to make it easy for you, just go to the right side of this page, and scroll down a bit until you see my Magickal Library picks on the right-hand side. I’ve set up direct links so you can order Crowley’s books easily.

If you’d like to celebrate the birth of the Magus, light a candle at 11:30 pm (PDT), I know I will.

Feast of the Beast & His Bride

August 13th, 2007 by Voxx

crowleyfamily.jpgToday is one of the Holy Days of Thelema, celebrating the wedding of Aleister Crowley and his first wife, Rose Edith Kelly. The couple were married on August 12th, 1903 at 8:00 am (GMT) in Dingwall, Scotland in a civil ceremony.

The union of Aleister and Rose proved passionate and fruitful, both personally and magickally for a short time before tragedy struck the couple in the guise of the loss of their children. They eventually divorced due to Rose’s struggle with dipsomania and other problems.

Despite the eventual ruin of Aleister and Rose’s relationship, Thelemites honor this date as one of great importance. It was Rose (in her role as Ouarda the Seer), who was the catalyst to a series of events which lead to the writing of The Book of the Law, the primary source of Thelemic philosophy.

After studying the Astrology Charts of both Crowley, Rose and their wedding, I can see how and why these two extraordinary people came together, and what drew them apart as well. (I’ll be posting these charts later in the Astrology Section of my Magickal Forum, so feel free to check them out.)

Until then, Happy 104th Anniversary Aleister and Rose!
