Aleister Crowley’s Greater Feast

December 1st, 2008 by Voxx

s_univ.jpgToday is the 61st Anniversary of the death of the avatar of Western Magick, Edward Alexander Crowley (more famously known as Aleister Crowley). Thelemites (those who follow the magickal tenets of Crowley) refer to this special day as Crowley’s Greater Feast.

As a Thelemite, I always observe the Holy Days of Thelema, and earlier today remembered to meditate on the special energy of this day; however, at 11:34 pm (PST) the remembrance hit me full force. I felt his spirit must have left close to this time all those years ago.

Of course, today’s observance of the anniversary of Crowley’s death is extra special, as it’s also the day of a rare Jupiter/Venus Conjunction, an Astrological signifier of blissful union.

After looking over the Astrological Chart of Crowley’s death (December 1st, 1947), I saw that the Sun was at 9 Degrees in the sign of Sagittarius. I suddenly realized that this exactly conjoined one of my karmic planets at the exact degree. No wonder the path of Thelema called out to me so strongly in this incarnation!

In closing, I’d like to end this post with one of the more stirring passages from Crowley’s own Liber XV (The Gnostic Mass), wherein the Deacon of the Mass states:

“Unto them from whose eyes the veil of life hath fallen may there be granted the accomplishment of their true Wills; whether they will absorption in the Infinite, or to be united with their chosen and preferred, or to be in contemplation, or to be at peace, or to achieve the labour and heroism of incarnation on this planet or another, or in any Star, or aught else, unto them may there be granted the accomplishment of their wills; yea, the accomplishment of their wills. AUMGN. AUMGN. AUMGN.”

Wherever you are Frater Perdurabo, I hope you can see the beauty of the legacy that lives on in all of your magickal children.

Isidore Lucien Ducasse: Memento Mori Maldoror

November 25th, 2007 by Voxx

maldororthegreat.gifI observe the 24th day of November as a personal day of remembrance in honor of Isidore Lucien Ducasse. He was a great poet of the 1800’s, considered by the artist/poet, Andre Breton to be the true father of Surrealism.

On this day, in the year 1870, Isidore died at the age of 24, under the usual Mysterious Circumstances, almost a necessary element of any true poet’s legend.

Do yourself a favor and go quietly insane after reading 3 sentences from any chapter of Ducasse’s masterpiece, “Les Chants de Maldoror” (“The Songs of Maldoror”).  It’s one of the few books I offer directly through my site, so you can click on the previous link, or scroll down the right-side of this page, and click to get your own copy.  I’ve had mine for many years.

Maldoror was written under Ducasse’s nomme de guerre, “Le Comte de Lautreamont”.

Read more about my friend Isidore by visiting the following links. Unjoy.

Happy Birthday Aleister Crowley

October 13th, 2007 by Voxx

crowley-bday.jpg
.’.93.’.

It seems that some of my greatest inspirations were born under the astrological sign of Libra. John Lennon is a musical hero, and Aleister Crowley is a magickal one.

I have to say that the writings and teachings of Crowley (aka The Master Therion), have been the most influential, especially considering my entire life has been dedicated to the learning and practice of the art of Magick.

Today, I’d like to pay my respects to Crowley on his 132nd birthday. His influence in the world continues to be felt through his Proclamation of the Law of Thelema, which ushered in the 93rd Current in the form of the Aeon of Horus, the Crowned and Conquering Child.

To learn more about Crowley’s ideas and magickal philosophies, please read The Book of the Law, or feel free to write me for more links and info.Albeit, Crowley (as a mere human) had his flaws and foibles, but as a Magician he had no equal, although there are those who might argue the point.

To learn more about Crowley, the Man and Magus, I hope you’ll spend a minute to read a bit about him at the Voxx Magickal Forum, and see for yourself.

Crowley, wherever you are … thank you for all the magickal gifts you’ve helped me to discover and use to manifest my True Will. I can honestly say, that the use of High Magick has enabled me to attract the health, wealth, knowledge and love that is every human’s birthright.

If you’d like to learn more about The Art and Practice of High Magick, feel free to contact me or check my list of available classes.

In the meantime, below are some additional links I feel might be useful for those of you who have yet to discover this incredible man for yourself. I suggest you read Crowley’s writings for yourself, and to make it easy for you, just go to the right side of this page, and scroll down a bit until you see my Magickal Library picks on the right-hand side. I’ve set up direct links so you can order Crowley’s books easily.

If you’d like to celebrate the birth of the Magus, light a candle at 11:30 pm (PDT), I know I will.

Sir John Dee: An Enochian Birthday

July 13th, 2007 by Voxx

johndee.gifToday is the anniversary of the 480th Birthday of the well-known, original Enochian Magician, Sir John Dee (the original Agent 007).

Sir John Dee was born on July 13th, 1527 and died in 1609. He was primarily known during his life as an expert mathematician and geographer; however, he was also a scholar of the Occult, and an alchemist as well as the Court Astrologer to no less than Queen Elizabeth I.

The Virgin Queen most likely owes a great deal to Dee for helping her make important decisions that ultimately cemented her unique place in history as the greatest, most powerful queen since the Egyptian Hatshepsut.

To modern occultists, Dee’s primary legacy is his system of Enochian Magick, which he transcribed by using a Trance Medium (Edward Kelley) as a communicator between man and the Angels.

Here are a few links for those of you who might enjoy reading more about this scholar of the divine.

As Dee might have said himself, “Ol Sonuf Vaorsagi!” Happy birthday Sir!

Full Moon in Capricorn!

June 30th, 2007 by Voxx

hecate-blake.jpgThe Full Moon will occur at 6:49 PDT (9:49 EDT), and will be at 08:25 Degrees of Capricorn. No doubt you will feel especially emotional, as Capricorn is the exact opposite sign of Cancer, the sign which is ruled by the Moon. The sign of Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn, and makes it a very intense time for all Moonchildren, in particular.

There is a great deal of craziness going on right now, with Mercury, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron all retrograde at the same time! So pretty much everything is up in the air — don’t try to hard to control things, as it’s impossible to get a handle on anything right now. The best you can do is to try to accept what’s going on in your life with the best attitude possible. Once Mercury goes direct again on July 9th, things will start settling down, once and for all.

Other Planets Affecting the Full Moon Energy: With Venus in Leo, you may find yourself taking things too personally, and amping the drama of your feelings — chill out! Save your acting for the stage — speaking of which, with Mercury in Cancer, you’ll no doubt be aware of how good your memory is getting. Write some poetry while you’re at it! Release your fears, and don’t let Capricorn’s uptight influence make you too bossy. Are you listening, President Bush? (He’s a Cancer, you know.)

The Positive Side: You can get in touch with your more disciplined side right now. It’s a good time to start any kind of regimen to increase your stamina and strength.

The Negative Side: You need to lighten up already! You may feel irritable, vulnerable, and angry right now — violence is definitely on the horizon, so keep your temper in check. Also, this placement is strong for the occurrence of earthquakes, as Capricorn is an earth sign, and rules mountains (and the little goat creatures that climb them).

Final Note: This is a very powerful Full Moon, so try to wake up early and meditate on the full level of energy that can be tapped and transmuted to your particular magickal purpose.

Capricorn Keywords for Focus: Structure, patience, thoroughness, goal-planning, and strategy.

Cancerian Keywords for Focus: Nourishment, security, appreciation and family.

Candle Ritual Info: Use the following colours, shapes, and items in your ritual for celebrating the Moon in Capricorn. All items should celebrate the sign the Moon is in, which is Capricorn.

Colours: Black and Indigo (for Capricorn).

Shapes: Crescents, 10-pointed stars.

Other Objects: Horns, crystal balls, black scrying mirrors.

Talismans: The Devil Card (Tarot/Capricorn), garnet, onyx, obsidian and/or any other black or indigo-colored stones.

Scents: Myrrh, Onycha, Cypress.

Herbs: Comfrey, Solomon’s Seal, Belladonna (poison), and Snowdrop.

Trees: Pine, Cypress, Yew, Spruce, and Holly.

Picture Info: “Hecate” by William Blake.
