Happy Candlemass 2007!

February 2nd, 2007 by Voxx

st brideFebruary 2nd is the time of Midwinter, celebrated as the Pagan holiday known as Imbolc, more commonly known as Candlemass, (also spelled “Candlemas”). Astrologically, this holiday is celebrated when the Sun is at 15 Degrees of Aquarius.

Imbolc, literally means,”in the belly” (of the Mother), for the seeds that are planted at the Winter Solstice are beginning to grow.

Symbolism of Imbolc: This is a time for ritual purification, and is a major Fire Festival (one of 4 celebrated by the ancient Celts). Sacred fires marked this holiday, in honor of the Maiden, Brigid (also known as Brigit) who symbolized the fire of healing and birth. In essence, this holiday celebrates the beginning return of the sun.

Although this is a season of coldness and rain, the sun is actually closest to earth at this time, even though we do not feel its warmth. It is at this time that we bring light into our lives.

Symbolism of Candlemass: Known as the “Festival of Lights”, at this time, we prepare light so that the goddess Brigid may find her way out of the darkness and return to us. In pagan lore, this is the time where Brigid (the Celtic Fire Goddess) acts as midwife to Spring, and this is the beginning of that season. Brigid is the triple goddess of poetry, smithcraft, and medicine.

Myths of the Goddess Brigid: The daughter of Spring is born of the White Goddess after her sexual union with the Horned God last Beltane. Under another name, Branwen, the virgin fertility goddess is invoked at this time.

bridgets cross It is also customary to weave “Brigid’s Cross” from straw and hang it upon the hearth. This is made in the shape of a wheel and during a sabbat, it is rolled down a hill while burning. At this time, a Witch attempts to understand the direction his or her life is taking. The Oak King rules.

Brigit as Bride: In Ireland, the Candlemass holiday is celebrated as the Feast Day of Brigid of the Candles (also known as “Bridget of Kildare”, the Celtic goddess of fire, the hearth, smithy, fields, poetry, and childbirth.)

The Numerology of the Year 2007

January 21st, 2007 by Voxx

s magusThe New Year 2007 equals a 9 and will therefore, will be an important cycle for most people to pay attention to, especially if you are born under the influence of the Number 1 or 2 (which will be explained below). Here’s a handy guideline of what energies you will be dealing with most during the upcoming year.

Don’t know what your Number is? Find out by contacting Voxx for more info on the fascinating subject of Numerology. You can also find out more by joining the Voxx Magickal Forum.

Number 9 years are particularly interesting as adding that number to any number from 1 through 9 winds up equaling the same number.

For example, if you’re a Number 1 Path, and you add 9, you get 10 (which reduces back down to the number 1 again!) Therefore, all of us will tend to really be in our own element this year; that is, except for those born under the influence of Number 2. 2’s will experience an 11 year, which will certainly prove to be a high point in their lives.  Check here for more on Keywords of the Numbers and Planets.

To find out what kind of year is in store for you, keep reading!

New Moon in Capricorn 28 Degrees; Chart & Info

January 19th, 2007 by Voxx

New Moon in Capricorn PDF – Astro Chart and Aspects!

The New Moon in Capricorn at 28 Degrees will happen tonight at 8:08 pm, PST (11:08 pm, EST).

The Meaning of The New Moon: The New Moon is the beginning of the Waxing (growing) phase of the moon. This phase is best for starting projects, and attracting energy toward manifesting your desires for the next 14 days — that is, until the next Full Moon phase, which represents the next cycle of completion. (Learn more about the Voxx Magickal Forum and check out the folder for New Moon Rituals.

Meaning of the New Moon in Capricorn: The New Moon in Capricorn is one of the best for setting goals, initiating projects, and making a serious commitment toward manifesting your long-range plans.

Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn, and both sign and planet are associated with the ideas of restriction, and discipline — both necessary in order to accomplish the greater things in life.

Right now, Mars (the planet of action) is also in the sign of Capricorn, lending a kick-ass energy which enables us to actually fulfill our New Year’s resolutions! While Capricorn is the starting point for this new lunar phase, the energy will build, adding a positive sense of forward movement to all you attempt.

Procrastinate tomorrow! (lol) Right now, it’s time to get yourself in gear and start moving forward for once. Just because this energy is so powerful and positive, there’s a likelihood that you’ll expect results quickly — but, don’t get exasperated when this doesn’t happen. Just because you’re finally taking your life seriously doesn’t mean that everything can be magickally sorted out overnight. Have patience. That’s the ultimate Capricornian phrase. Chill out for heaven’s sake!

Planetary Aspects: Uranus and Jupiter make an uneasy 45-degree semisquare to the Sun-Moon conjunction. Meaning of this aspect suggests that plans can be disrupted at the last minute, so make sure to have a backup plan. In order to keep things going smoothly, it’s best to adapt to the situation, rather than give up entirely. You can still achieve your goals, but maybe just not as quickly as you had originally hoped. Balanced communication is necessary to keep pressure from building up. Roll with the punches, and don’t take things too personally at this time.

Global Effects of the New Moon in Capricorn: The Lunar/Saturn influence will no doubt be tough on weather patterns, and make us start paying attention to the damage we’re doing to the planet — not as punishment, but to guide us toward changing our patterns of planetary abuse.

Robert Anton Wilson: Prometheus Rising, 2007

January 12th, 2007 by Voxx

rawbabalon 1“Nothing is true. All is permitted.” _ Hasan i Sabbah

Robert Anton Wilson left his earthly vehicle for a late-model astral body, leaving the chaotic shores of Gaia for possibly the last time at 4:50 am (PST), on Thursday, January 11, 2007, with the Moon at 29 Degrees Libra.

According to a news source, Robert had been in ill health for the past several years. He suffered from the effects of post-polio syndrome which had severely damaged his legs and weakened his body. After a serious fall in June 2006, Robert was unable to walk, and confined to bed. Many of his closest family, friends and fans rallied around the author during his last several months to support him emotionally and even financially, for which Wilson was truly grateful.

Wilson, or RAW as he was popularly known, was a prolific author, penning a wide range of fascinating work during his long, and eventful life. Among his works left behind, are novels and essays.

In addition to being a celebrated author, he was also a philosopher, psychologist, futurist, anarchist, and conspiracy theorist.

bobcrowleyA small selection of Wilson’s best-known works include such popular books as:

  • The Illuminatus! Trilogy (1975) including the following:
  • (The Eye in the Pyramid)
  • (The Golden Apple)
  • (Leviathan)
  • The Cosmic Trigger I: Final Secret of the Illuminati (1977)
  • Schrodinger’s Cat (Trilogy, 1980-1981)
  • Masks of the Illuminati (1981)
  • The Historical Illuminatus Chronicles (1982-1991)
  • Prometheus Rising (1983, revised 1987), and
  • Quantum Psychology (1990)

He was also friends with the late Timothy Leary, with whom he collaborated on two books, Neuropolitics and The Game of Life.

I had the personal good fortune to meet Robert several times over the last several years. Here I go, taking an acid trip down memory lane …

Holy Guardian Angel: A Simplified Ritual for Contact

January 12th, 2007 by Voxx

s art 1I was recently contacted on my new Magickal Forum by a young man who was interested in obtaining the name of his Holy Guardian Angel (in magickal circles usually abbreviated as the HGA).

There are numerous methods for contacting the HGA, some of which involve years of Qabalistic study and occult scholarship, such as the famed ritual of the ancient Mage, Abramelin, which promises the Magician the “Knowledge and Conversation” of ones Holy Guardian Angel. This method necessitates the seeker isolate himself for a period of 6 months to one year, in constant prayer along with a series of prolonged and detailed rituals.

It stands to reason that most students of the Western Magickal tradition hardly have the time, nor funds to perform such a lengthy magickal operation. After all, us modern mystics have to hold down jobs and deal with the mundane necessities of the modern world. So what’s a fledgling Magician to do? I decided to offer a solution by sharing a simple, but effective Holy Guardian Angel Ritual!
